Design

Alienware has always produced well-designed products. Be it laptops or desktops, the design has never been dull. The same can be said in this case as well. The design of this new desktop is very impressive. They have taken the usual rectangle cabinet and made it their own.

It is stylish and sure as hell looks premium. Another cool thing about this design is that you can lay it both horizontally and vertically depending on the space available on your room. Either way it looks awesome. It might look like we have a bias but that thing is really beautiful.

You can also customize the lighting on the left hand side of the cabinet. You can choose from 20 colors and light up three zones. This can potentially lead to 8000 color combinations which is really cool. For a desktop, this one is not that heavy. It weighs just around 12 pounds which is easy to move around.

As far as the design is concerned, you will not be disappointed.

Hardware

There is no monitor here as this is a standalone desktop. You can, however, go through our monitor section and find a display that is perfect in your budget for gaming.

The Alienware X51 AX51R2-4292BK desktop is powered by an Intel core i5 processor that clocks at 3.2GHz.This is a 4^th gen processor which has good processing power and is the right choice for a mid-range gaming device.

This processor can run all the games without any problem. Apart from gaming, it can also help you with any application you want. There is also an option to opt for an i7 processor, but it just increases the price by, a huge amount. For us, this i5 is just as good as the i7 for a gaming desktop.

There are 8 gigs of dual channel DDR3 RAM. This is a decent amount of memory to have in a gaming machine. Many people might say that 8GB isn’t that great for gaming which isn’t actually true. Yes, there will be a better performance if you have 16GB of RAM but having 8GB is nowhere near bad.

The best thing about having a desktop is that you can upgrade whenever you want to. So if you feel like your RAM is not doing you justice, go and upgrade your memory just like that.

This is a compact desktop. The form factor is small and you can take this along with you anywhere. Think of it as the MacMini of Dell. ASUS has tried something similar and had some success with it. It is now Dell’s turn and they have started on the right foot.

The desktop is very clean. There is a power button in the front. There are a couple of USB ports in the back and an SD card reader in the left side. The ventilation can be found at the bottom. With dimensions of 5.16 x 5.16 x 2.07 inches, it weighs just around 1.3 pounds which is very light for a desktop.

Overall, it is a good design but the number of ports can be less for the people of this age.

There is no regular hard drive in this Acer Chromebase DC221HQ wmicz desktop. We only have a 16GB solid state drive which is super fast. The booting time of the desktop is just in seconds. The opening and closing of apps is also a lot faster.

This is more like a feature of a Chromebook. You only get SSDs and the not the regular SATA drives. As a result, you are restricted with a low storage solid state drive.

Gaming is possible if you are planning to play it online. The graphics performance of this Tegra chip is very good. As you can’t play mainstream games, this isn’t a great option for hardcore gamers.

There is a USB 3.0 port and also a headphone jack at the back. There is also a media card reader which can be handy for some.

One issue here is that all the ports are located at the back. There are no ports or drive for you to access in the front which is a lot of wasted space, just for the sake of design.

A cool desktop is preferred by gamers as it affect your gaming. For that, ventilation can be found on both sides of the desktop cabinet. At 16.5 pounds, you better not plan to move it around quite often. The keyboard and mouse you get along with the desktop are normal stuff and nothing special.
